This Privacy Policy covers the OverlayLoft app for macOS - a menu-bar tool for on-screen annotation, measuring, presenting, and screen recording. OverlayLoft runs entirely on your Mac.
OverlayLoft is local-first. Everything it does - drawing overlays, sampling colors, measuring, recording your screen - happens on your Mac, and the results (recordings, screenshots, settings) stay on your Mac. We do not operate accounts or servers for it, we never receive your screen content, and there are no ads and no analytics or tracking SDKs.
We do not ask for or collect your name, email, contacts, identity, files, screen recordings, screenshots, or location. We run no server that receives such data. Everything OverlayLoft creates is stored locally under your control.
Some features use macOS system capabilities, each gated by a permission you grant in System Settings:
- Screen Recording - required for the loupe/color-pick, edge-snap measuring, image decals grabbed from the screen, and screen recording. OverlayLoft captures screen content only on your Mac via Apple's ScreenCaptureKit, only while you use those features, and never transmits it to us. Recordings are written to the location you choose.
- Input Monitoring - required only for global keyboard shortcuts and pointer tracking used to position overlays. OverlayLoft observes key/pointer events on your Mac only, to trigger tools; it does not log keystrokes or send them anywhere.
- Camera (optional) - used only if you enable the webcam inset while recording. The camera feed is composited on your Mac and is never sent to us.
You can decline or revoke any of these in System Settings; features that need a permission simply stay off until you grant it. Annotation, crosshair, shapes, and text work with no permissions at all.
OverlayLoft shows no ads. There is no advertising SDK in the app.
Optional one-time in-app purchases (feature packs) are processed by the Mac App Store via Apple's StoreKit. We never see or receive your payment details. The app stores only a local record of what you have unlocked. Purchase data is handled under Apple's privacy policy.
OverlayLoft keeps only what you create, on your Mac, for as long as you keep it. We take reasonable measures in the app, but no software is perfectly secure.
OverlayLoft is a general-purpose productivity tool, not directed to children under 13, and collects no personal information from anyone.
We may update this policy; changes are effective when posted here.
